Flash was a starter until the Sox converted him to a closer in 1997. His 46 saves in '98 still stands as the Sox' single-season record. Gordon's dominated in '99 as well -- he set a major league record with his 54th consecutive save in June -- but an elbow injury limited him to just 21 appearances. He signed with the Cubs in 2000 as Derek Lowe took over the closer role in Boston.
