Red Sox spring training primer

Bailey will be taking the ball in the 9th Cherington traded right fielder Josh Reddick and two prospects to the Athletics for Bailey and outfielder Ryan Sweeney. Bailey closed games for the Athletics the last three seasons, earned two All-Star Game bids, and was the 2009 AL rookie of the year. Staying on the field has been a problem for the 27-year-old, but Valentine said he is confident that Bailey will be ready to go to start this season. 'I've been extremely impressed with his competitiveness and his ability to get both right- and lefthanded hitters out,' Valentine said.
