The Globe reported that Francona was distracted by marital issues and his use of pain medication last season, an allegation the former Red Sox manager denied. Francona interviewed for the Cardinals' manager job, but Mike Matheny was hired for the position. Francona will be working as an analyst on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecast.
