The blame game: Red Sox collapse
No one thought at the start of the season that the Red Sox would lack an ace, but Lester's performance down the stretch left the Sox wanting more. He pitched well enough to win the finale against Baltimore, but Lester was 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in September. The rest of the Red Sox rotation was banged up, but Lester and Beckett should have been sure things. They weren't.
