Red Sox general managers through the years
Dick O'ConnellYears: 1961-1962; 1965-1977
Dick O'Connell started his career with the Red Sox in 1949 working as business manager in the 1950s. The Red Sox list him as general manager for the 1961 season, when it wasn't clear if retired Ted Williams (right) would come back for the job. It wasn't until 1965 that he assumed that post in a major way.
O'Connell constructed teams that would become legendary, including the Impossible Dream club of 1967 which lost in the World Series and the 1975 team that also made it to the championship but lost.
