Pena's batting average has become progressively worse every year since hitting .282 in 2007. He's was partially slowed down by injury this year but still hit home runs at a considerable rate, a season after tying for the AL lead with 39. The Haverill native and former Northeastern standout played briefly for the Sox in 2006, and despite his tough season, he's an intriguing option as a stop-gap.
