On April 9, just hours after he had pitched six shutout innings against the A's in what had been the best performance of his young career, Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed along with two others in car accident after a drunk driver behind the wheel of a minivan ran a red light. The Angels have paid homage to Adenhart in numerous ways this season. They wear a black No. 34 patch -- his uniform number -- on their jerseys. His locker remains untouched in the team's clubhouse. His uniform hangs in the dugout during games. And a picture of Adenhart adorns the center field fence at Angel Stadium -- after the club clinched a playoff berth Sept. 28, a team photo was taken in front of the image, which teammates also sprayed with champagne. They Angels would like nothing more than to honor their fallen 22-year-old teammate by having a postseason to remember.
