Shortstop is again a black hole
Jed Lowrie, who returned to the lineup recently after missing three months following left wrist surgery, departed last night's loss with an irritated left forearm, which is ominous considering his history. Nick Green, who filled in so well early in the season, is hitting .074 since the break and is scatterarmed in the field. And did we mention Julio Lugo is hitting .357 for the Cardinals? Theo Epstein did acquire someone who has experience at shortstop on Friday: Chris Woodward, a 33-year-old veteran of 10 major league seasons who is a .243 career hitter.
