Steroid-era confessions and denials
Manny RamirezManny Ramirez was suspended by baseball for the second time in 2011 after he reportedly tested positive for a banned PED during his spring training tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays. Ramirez was also suspended for 50 games in 2009 for violating baseball's drug policy. Ramirez denied taking any performance-enhancing drug, blaming the failed test on prescribed medication that he did not know contained a banned substance. He released this statement: "Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. L.A. is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation." That was merely the tip of the iceberg, as Ramirez was mentioned in a New York Times report with Ortiz as having tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.
