1. Have the Red Sox improved?Yes and no. With regard to the pitching staff -- at least on paper -- the Sox look extremely deep, particularly in the bullpen. Just having Justin Masterson for an entire season will make a considerable difference, and assuming that Jed Lowrie is the starter, the defense at shortstop will be better throughout the year, too. The downside? The lineup looks softer than we're accustomed to. The last time the Red Sox played an entire season without Manny Ramirez -- in 2000 -- they finished 12th in the league in runs scored.
