Sox Reliever Andrew Miller is Baltimore Bound

With Jon Lester and John Lackey headed for a change of scenery, a third Red Sox hurler is now being shipped out of town: Andrew Miller.’s Jerry Crasnick was the first to report that Miller was to be traded to the Baltimore Orioles with less than an hour to go before the 4 p.m. MLB trade deadline.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal confirmed the report, while’s Alex Speier reported that the Orioles are sending minor league pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez to the Red Sox in exchange for Miller.

The Red Sox announced the deal was official just before 3:30 p.m.

Miller was 3-5 with a 2.34 ERA in 50 appearances for the Red Sox this season. In his last outing in a Red Sox uniform on Tuesday against the Blue Jays, he struck out the side, a fitting curtain call for the southpaw that struck out 69 batters and walked just 13 in 42 1/3 innings this year.

Rodriguez is a 21-year-old lefthander who has started 16 games for the Double-A Bowie Baysox this season, posting a 3-7 record with a 4.79 ERA. He came into the year ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Orioles system, according to
