Stat of Day I: Courtesy of Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Only four pitchers in Red Sox history have allowed five or more home runs in a game. All were present at Fenway Park on Friday: Josh Beckett (twice), Tim Wakefield (twice), Clay Buchholz (twice), and Dennis Eckersley.

Beckett allowed five homers against the Yankees on Aug. 23, 2009. Eckersley allowed five homers against the Yankees on July 1, 1979, and Buchholz did it Friday.

Stat of the Day II: The Red Sox media notes on Friday said that the average US income in 1912 was $1,033. Alex Rodriguez is making $29 million this season, or $179,012 a game. Based on Friday's game going 3 hours and 18 minutes, he made $904.55 a minute. Or just $128.45 less than the average American did all year in 1912.
