FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine told reporters Saturday that he will not allow players to drink any beer in the clubhouse or during the last leg of team plane trips.

The rule, Valentine said, "is just what I've always done" as a manager. He said the reaction from players was "probably somewhere right in between a standing [ovation] and a standing boo."
