Josh Beckett is feeling like his old self and shut down the Blue Jays yesterday.

Jed Lowrie, the new leadoff hitter, had a big day in support of Beckett. Michael Vega has the story.

The notebook has Carl Crawford getting a day off and Mike Cameron looking sharp in a rare appearance in left field.

In the Sunday baseball notes, Nick Cafardo writes about whether Jason Bay or Jayson Werth would have been better choices for the Red Sox.

Here's an interesting blog post from BloodySox.com heavy on sabermetrics, that suggests Dwight Evans deserves the Hall of Fame more than Jim Rice.

It's a well-researched piece. But the choice was not Evans or Rice. To me, Evans is more compelling case when compared to Andre Dawson.
