The Red Sox have signed catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a one-year deal, avoiding arbitration. Terms were not disclosed in the team's announcement.
The 25-year-old, acquired from Texas in July, hit .159 with one RBI in 10 games before undergoing season-ending thumb surgery.
The Red Sox now have three players still eligible for arbitration: OF Jacoby Ellsbury, LHP Hideki Okajima and RHP Jonathan Papelbon.
UPDATE, 7:41 p.m.: AP reports that the deal is worth $750,000. Saltalamacchia would make $250,000 if he ends up in the minors.
