Josh Beckett, who was supposed to start tonight's game but was scratched with a bad back, is playing catch in right field with pitching coach John Farrell.

Head athletic trainer Mike Reinold is monitoring the session. Beckett is going through an abbreviated wind-up and follow throw and does not appear to be having any problems.

More on this later.

UPDATE, 3:05 p.m.: Now Beckett has moved back to what looks to be 120 feet or so and is throwing from there.

UPDATE, 3:10 p.m.: Beckett is now almost in center field and Farrell is on the foul line. He's been at this for 11 minutes now. Based on this, his back must be feeling better.

UPDATE, 3:13 p.m.: Beckett just finished up and us talking to Farrell and Reinold. Hopefully I'll get a chance to talk to him in the clubhouse in 15-20 minutes.

UPDATE, 3:32p.m.: Now Beckett is riding an exercise bike in the clubhouse.
