In an interview with the Venezuelan newspaper Diaro Panorama, Marco Scutaro said the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mariners and Rangers have expressed an interest in signing him.

"There are two teams that would interest me, which are the Dodgers and Boston, as it would have the opportunity to be in the playoffs,” Scutaro said.

The Red Sox want Scutaro as a shortstop, the Dodgers as a second baseman and the Mariners as a third baseman. Scutaro would prefer to play short or second.

Despite signing Gonzalez and defensively gifted backup John McDonald, the Blue Jays are expected to offer Scutaro salary arbitration on Tuesday to recoup a first-round draft pick from the team that signs him.

“I think it's no secret that I am going to be offered arbitration, because they want their draft (picks),” said Scutaro, a Type A free agent.

From a versatility standpoint, Scutaro makes sense. He can play second if needed or third. But if the cost is a two-year deal and their first-round pick, the Sox could balk. Miguel Tejada is also a Type A free agent.

The wild card is Billy Wagner. If the Sox offer him arbitration, they could sign Scutaro (or Tejada) knowing they'll get a pick back when Wagner signs.

That is, of course, unless Wagner accepts.

Because of all that, don't expect for Scutaro to sign until after Dec. 7, the deadline for those free agents offered arbitration to accept. It's worth it to him to see exactly where he stands at that point.
