The tarp was recently removed, the grounds crew is working, and players are on the field stretching and tossing. The sun is poking out of moderately cloudy skies, but it appears we'll see some baseball this afternoon. The guess here is that they'll try very hard to get today's game in despite the possibility of showers and thunderstorms; this marks the last time this season that Oakland and Boston are scheduled to meet.

Jon Lester (9-7, 3.79 ERA) is on the mound for the Red Sox; he gave up six earned runs in six innings and took the loss in his lone start against Oakland this year, back on April 13. Gio Gonzalez makes his ninth start of the season for the A's, and first against Boston. He's 2-2 with a 7.75 ERA.
