FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Greetings from chilly Fort Myers, where we'll undoubtedly receive no sympathy back home despite the fact that jackets and pants are prevalent today with temperatures hanging in the mid-50s to start the morning. (Yes, we realize how ridiculous that sounds after you likely shoveled your walkway this morning.)
Jonathan Papelbon emerged from the clubhouse this morning and screamed, "Why is it so cold?" It's not so much the temperatures as it is the pesky winds.
The Red Sox are hosting their 16th annual charity golf tournament this afternoon, so reporters had abbreviated access to the clubhouse as the team looks to get on and off the field earlier with eyes towards departing the player development complex by 11:30 a.m.
A message on the team's whiteboard inside the clubhouse reminded golfers to get their lifting done this morning. Terry Francona noted yesterday that the Sox have around 30 team members playing in today's tournament.
Not much of note otherwise in the clubhouse. Carlos Maldonado took a minute to study the current standings in the catchers' daily drop contest and smiled to find himself atop the list having dropped no balls in 530 attempts thus far. Josh Bard resided in the basement of the standings after a three-drop day yesterday.
Back with more throughout the day.
