BALTIMORE - The Red Sox are still trying to deal Julian Tavarez and are talking to "two or three" teams according to a major league source. Tavarez was designated for assignment on May 12. The Sox have always been willing to eat most of Tavarez' $3.85 million salary.
If they can't make a deal Tavarez will go through waivers and can either become a free-agent or accept a Triple-A assignment with Boston if offered.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first on Dustin Pedroia's RBI single scoring Jacoby Ellsbury, who reached on an infield hit and stole second base, his 15th of the season.
