Nick Hagadone, the left-hander chosen first by the Sox in last June's draft, is facing Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, according to Soxprospects.com, but club officials say that they are awaiting a second opinion from noted orthopedist James Andrews, whom Hagadone is scheduled to see Monday.

Hagadone, who was taken 55th overall last June, had extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 33 with 2 1/3 scoreless innings a week ago Wednesday for the Class A Greenville Drive, but he was taken out of the game with what was described as tightness in his elbow. He then skipped his next start, and further examination indicated a torn ulnar collateral ligament, according to reports. But the Sox will wait until Andrews examines him before making a determination on how to proceed.
