NAPLES, Fla. -- The news of Frank Thomas about to sign with Toronto has sent shockwaves through the meetings. Toronto seemed to come out of the blue on this one, leaving Oakland, Baltimore and Texas in the dust with a deal for two years at $20 million-$23 million and there's word of a possible option year as well.

It's also added speculation as to whether that means the end of Vernon Wells in Toronto, or conversely whether Wells might see it as a big committment by the Jays and re-up.

There's been talk of J.P. Ricciardi trading Wells to Texas or Houston, but Ricciardi has remained steadfast that he's not in a hurry and would prefer to sign Wells, one of the best all-around center fielder's in the game, long term.

GMs were taking part in their final meetings this morning, but many of them are bolting for their homes this afternoon and evening. At this point, it's not known how long Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and his staff will remain.
