If you've already scrolled down (cheater!) and looked at the lineups for today's game, you've probably noticed that Mark Loretta isn't among the Red Sox starters. No cause for alarm, Sox fans. Terry Francona said that he left Loretta out of the lineup simply to give him some rest, not even realizing that his omission might cause the rumor mill to start churning. Loretta hasn't been traded -- yet -- and Francona said he was going to seek out his second basemen to assure him that it was a coincidence that he was sitting on the day before the trade deadline.

After shrugging off all trade talk -- "I don't think anybody knows until it happens" -- Francona said he has been talking to some of his players, including Coco Crisp as per a recommendation from general manager Theo Epstein, about the rumors and possible deals that have been put forth by the media. "This game is hard enough to play when things are going well, so you don't want guys to be worried about things that they have no reason to worry about," Francona said, before indicating that he wasn't sure Crisp even knew that he was on the block.

Francona said Keith Foulke's lower back tightened up, which has happened twice a year since the manager has known him, preventing him from making his scheduled appearance with the PawSox today in his attempt to rehab. Foulke will hopefully be playing catch either tomorrow or the next day, Francona said.

That's about it from here today. Lots of media in the clubhouse today with the trading deadline coming up tomorrow, though there is far less national interest than there was last time at this year with Manny Ramirez and his trade request. No more stories for you, unfortunately. Guess you can't run into Peyton Manning every day.
