Tickets for the Red Sox' spring training games at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, Fla., go on sale Saturday, and prices remain the same as last season.
Beginning Saturday at 10 a.m., fans can purchase tickets on the Internet at www.redsox.com or by calling 617-482-4SOX. Fans in Florida can purchase tickets by going to the City of Palms box office during regular business hours.
The Red Sox will open their spring schedule March 2 against Minnesota in the Twins' home park in Fort Myers, Hammond Stadium. Boston College and Northeastern visit City of Palms the next day for a day-night doubleheader, with the Sox playing the Pittsburgh Pirates March 4 in their first official home game.
The Yankees will not visit Fort Myers this season -- the Sox will play the Bombers in Tampa March 22 -- but Josh Beckett's former team, the Florida Marlins, are on the schedule for a home-and-home set. The Sox visit the Marlins in Jupiter March 8, then host the Fish March 17. After breaking camp in Florida, the Sox travel to Philadelphia for games against the Phillies April 1 and 2 before opening the regular season in Texas April 3.
This spring will be like no other because of the inaugural World Baseball Classic, a tournament pitting teams from 15 countries and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Games are scheduled to be played March 3-20 (the first round in Japan begins March 3, with the non-Asian teams to begin March 8). While final rules regarding the composition of teams have yet to be announced, rosters must be submitted 45 days before the tournament.
The Sox also announced reporting dates. Pitchers and catchers report Feb. 18, with the first workout the next day. Position players report Feb. 22, with the first full-squad workout Feb. 23.
