Red Sox put Youkilis, McCarty on DL
The Red Sox infield was dealt yet another blow Tuesday afternoon, as third baseman Kevin Youkilis and first baseman David McCarty were placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Youkilis is suffering from a bone bruise in his right ankle, and McCarty has a ganglion cyst in his right wrist.
To take their roster spots, the Sox called up Triple-A infielder Earl Snyder (who is leading the International League with 33 homers and 90 RBIs) and activated right-handed reliever Curtis Lescanic from the disabled list.
Youkilis, who Sunday suffered the bone bruise in his right ankle in a home-plate collision with White Sox catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr., is hitting .281 with seven homers and 33 RBI in 56 games with the Red Sox this season.
McCarty is hitting .246 (34-for-138) with three home runs and 16 RBI in 82 games for the Red Sox this season.
The Red Sox also announced they were transferring reliever Scott Williamson to the 60-day disabled list.
