Prior to the Red Sox’ 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Friday at Fenway Park, Red Sox personnel received their World Series rings and David Ortiz was given an extra box.
Inside was a special ring to commemorate his World Series MVP award, an extra token of appreciation for the slugger who hit .688 in the Series with two home runs and six RBIs.
“I thought maybe they were giving me somebody else’s ring. I was like, ‘Hey, you’re giving me two,’ ” Ortiz joked after the game.
“But no, it was very kind coming from them. It’s something you’re not expecting . . . and you appreciate the fact they look at you that way.”
