They may have just been having a little fun on April Fools’ Day, but we’re guessing being named to the Presidential Council on Beards is no small thing for Red Sox slugger Mike Napoli.

According to the White House Blog, Napoli will join a cast of bearded characters that includes press secretary Jay Carney, “Between Two Ferns” host Zach Galifianakis, and first canine Bo Obama in an effort “dedicated to honoring our nation’s history, and promoting men’s health and wellness.” The post added:

Outfielder Jonny Gomes has said the beards of the 2014 championship are a unity instrument of the past, but in his comments to the Red Sox on the South Lawn of the White house yesterday morning, the president lamented the loss of the facial hair.

“I don’t recognize all these clean-shaven guys,” Obama said.
