A charitable man
Steinbrenner could be very charitable and magnanimous, even to Boston. Before he became ill, he called in every year to the WEEI radio telethon and made a sizable donation to the Jimmy Fund.
After the Red Sox won Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS at Yankee Stadium, he ordered that the lights be left on so the Red Sox could celebrate.
He also has a Massachusetts connection. He graduated from Williams College in 1952, and later became a huge benefactor of the school. He played football and ran track at the Williamstown school.
