NL notables

* The Mets' Jeff Keppinger got his first major league steal in the seventh, swiping second.

* Brady Clark, the Brewers' leadoff hitter with Scott Podsednik getting the day off, reached on a hit-by-pitch, an intentional walk, and catcher's interference in his first three trips to the plate, then doubled in his fourth appearance.

* The seven runs were the Brewers' most since an 8-7 win over Pittsburgh Aug. 1.

* Ben Sheets's 213 strikeouts are second to Teddy Higuera's franchise record of 240 in 1987. Sheets broke the Milwaukee record for a righthander of 211 set by Tony Cloninger in 1965.

* The Cardinals overall have 10 three-game sweeps and one of four games. After losing 22 of their first 45 games, they've lost just 22 of the last 88.

* The Diamondbacks committed four errors for a team-record total for the season of 113 -- second only to the Mets' 118 in the NL.

* The Giants' Barry Bonds -- four homers shy of 700 -- was issued his 98th intentional walk, 30 more than his previous major league record in 2002.

* The Brewers have put together consecutive wins just once in their last 50 games, Aug. 8 against Florida and Aug. 10 against Atlanta after a day off.
