* Texas manager Buck Showalter turned 48 yesterday. He's now 2-6 on his birthday.

* Yankee outfielder Kenny Lofton left in the bottom of the sixth with tightness in his left hamstring. He said he doesn't expect to miss any games.

* Anaheim's Casey Kotchman has not struck out in 46 big league plate appearances since being promoted from Double A Arkansas May 9. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that's the longest such streak by any player from the start of his major league career since Bob Bailor, who went a combined 51 plate appearances with Baltimore and Toronto before his first strikeout in 1977.

* Eric Karros's seventh-inning double for Oakland was his second hit in his last 17 at-bats.

* More fans (33,476) attended yesterday's game in Oakland, Calif., on Reggie Jackson bobblehead day than did for Saturday's game (26,081), when Jackson was in the stadium to have his No. 9 retired.
