FORT MYERS, Fla. — Blake Swihart doesn’t want to be known as the next Craig Biggio, a guy who was so athletic that they eventually moved him from catcher to outfield to second base.
While Biggio, even with the positional changes, will likely be a Hall of Famer, Swihart, listed at a generous 6-1, 175 pounds, wants to remain a catcher.
If Christian Vazquez is Boston’s next big thing behind the plate, Swihart is about a year behind him, which is why the team did its level best not to re-sign Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a long-term deal even though Salty was only 28.
