With win, Brown picks up where it left off

Joe DiGiacomo passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns and Everett's Matt Nuzzo scored his first varsity touchdown as Brown beat Georgetown, 34-21, in Providence yesterday and matched a school record with its ninth consecutive win dating to last season.

Georgetown (1-2) scored its first first-quarter touchdown since Nov. 20, 2004 against Holy Cross when Ben Hostetler threw a 38-yard pass to Kenny Mitchell with 9:04 left in the quarter.

Brown (1-0) countered with 34 straight points. The Bears tied the game at 7-7 on Brandon Markey's 3-yard run 1:28 into the second quarter.

DiGiacomo put Brown ahead for good when he threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Lonnie Hill, capping a 90-yard, 11-play drive.

DiGiacomo threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colin Cloherty for a 20-7 lead just 33 seconds before halftime, then Jonathan May's interception on the first play of the third quarter set up Akin Oyalowo's 1-yard touchdown run.

Backup quarterback Nuzzo scored on a 27-yard run for a 34-7 lead.

Georgetown's Matt Bassuener threw a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, 9 yards to Sidney Baker and 4 yards to Mitchell.

Zak DeOssie made 14 tackles to lead a Brown defense that held Georgetown to 58 yards rushing.

San Diego 43, Yale 17 -- Junior Josh Johnson threw for four touchdowns and ran 46 yards for another as the Toreros won in New Haven and exended the longest current win streak in Division 1-AA to 11 games.

Colgate 28, Dartmouth 7 -- Jordan Scott ran for three touchdowns and 169 yards to lead the host Raiders (1-1) over the Big Green (0-1).

Bucknell 20, Cornell 5 -- Quarterback Andrew Lair ran for 77 yards and a touchdown and Peter Kaufman scored on a 41-yard run on the last play of the first quarter as the host Bison (2-1) stopped the Big Red (0-1).

Princeton 14, Lehigh 10 -- Rob Toresco scored on a 7-yard run and Jeff Terrell threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Adam Berry in the third quarter as the Tigers (1-0) rallied to beat the Mountain Hawks in Bethlehem, Pa.

Penn 21, Lafayette 11 -- Joe Sandberg rushed for 166 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Quakers (1-0) in their win over the Leopards (2-1) in Easton, Pa.

Columbia 37, Fordham 7 -- In New York, Craig Hormann passed for 154 yards and a touchdown as the Lions (1-0) rolled past the Rams (1-2).
