Pitchkolan goal lifts Dallas

Aaron Pitchkolan scored in the 94th minute, giving FC Dallas a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards yesterday in Frisco, Texas.

FC Dallas (3-0-1) won despite playing one man down after the 68th minute when defender Chris Gbandi was ejected after he picked up a red card for a foul on the Wizards' Davy Arnaud.

Kansas City (3-0-1) had tied the game, 1-1, in the 92d minute on Alex Zotinca's first goal of the year. Zotinca fired a shot from 6 yards that caromed off the crossbar and into the net.

Less than two minutes later, Pitchkolan made a steal and placed a shot from the top of the penalty box into the center of the goal for an unassisted score, his first goal of the season. Pitchkolan had entered the game in the 75th minute as a substitute for forward Kenny Cooper.

Cooper gave FC Dallas a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season in the fourth minute when he headed in a deflected shot. Wizards goalie Bo Oshoniyi slapped away Carlos Ruiz's shot with his left hand directly to Cooper, who was standing at the top left corner of the goalie's box.

Kansas City forward Eddie Johnson faced his former teammates for the first time. Johnson played for FC Dallas from 2001-05 and led the MLS in goals in 2004 before he was traded to Kansas City during the offseason.

Kyle Martino scored in second-half stoppage time to give the Columbus Crew a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy late Saturday night in Carson, Calif.

The game was Crew coach Sigi Schmid's first against the team he guided from 1999-2004 before being fired as the Galaxy occupied first place in the Western Conference.
