A win for new Nets coach

76ers unable to keep up

Richard Jefferson and the New Jersey Nets made Lawrence Frank's first game as interim coach a success.

Jefferson scored 30 points, leading the Nets to a 94-76 victory over the 76ers last night in Philadelphia.

Frank, the 33-year-old former assistant who was promoted after Byron Scott was fired Monday, paced the sideline down to midcourt, flapped his arms and shouted direction the entire game, but he had little to worry about.

Jason Kidd, whose mid-December screaming match with Scott weakened the coach's standing in the locker room, had 13 points and 10 assists. Kenyon Martin also scored 13 points.

The Nets opened with a 26-6 run, getting easy baskets off 11 first-quarter turnovers by the 76ers.

The 76ers played without Allen Iverson, still bothered by a right index finger sprain.

Willie Green led Philadelphia with 20 points and Eric Snow had 13.

Mavericks 118, SuperSonics 116 -- Antoine Walker made a 20-footer at the buzzer, lifting visiting Dallas to its ninth straight win.

Dirk Nowitzki scored a career-high 43 points with a 16-of-22 shooting performance that included a career-high eight 3-pointers.

Rashard Lewis scored 30 points to lead Seattle. Antonio Daniels added a season-high 21 points.

The Sonics missed a chance to win when they had what could have been the final possession. Ray Allen ran the clock down to six seconds before driving on Finley, but his runner hit the side of the backboard and Walker grabbed the rebound.

He called time with 1.6 seconds to go. After the brief break, Walker took the inbounds pass, stepped and spun toward the Sonics bench and threw in the winner from the corner.

Spurs 77, Knicks 67 -- Charlie Ward returned to Madison Square Garden and put San Antonio ahead for good on a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter in its victory over New York.

Tim Duncan had 30 points and 19 rebounds. Manu Ginobili, starting his second straight game with Hedo Turkoglu sidelined, had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.

Clippers 102, Bulls 92 -- Corey Maggette scored 28 points and Elton Brand had 20 points and 11 rebounds as host Los Angeles handed Chicago its seventh loss in eight games.

Suns 89, Hawks 85 -- Shawn Marion scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half as Phoenix won in Atlanta.
