Suns get the best of hobbled Lakers

Joe Johnson scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, and Jake Voskuhl made two key follow shots down the stretch as the Phoenix Suns beat the injury-depleted Lakers, 88-85, last night in Los Angeles.

The loss was just the third in 23 home games for the Lakers this season and their second in six games overall.

Voskuhl had season-high totals of 18 points and 12 rebounds and Howard Eisley added 11 points for the Suns. Kareem Rush led the Lakers with 18 points and Bryon Russell added a season-high 17.

The Lakers were without injured stars Shaquille O'Neal (strained right calf), Kobe Bryant (sprained right shoulder), and Karl Malone (sprained knee). Pistons 85, Spurs 77 -- Chauncey Billups scored only 4 points through three-plus quarters but finished with 18 to lift host Detroit to its franchise record-tying 13th straight win.After the Spurs enjoyed slim leads in the final quarter, Billups tied it at 72 with a 3-pointer with a few minutes left. Billups made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:28 left, and his 3-point play put the Pistons ahead, 81-77, with 48.6 seconds to go. He then made all four of his free throw attempts to seal the win.

Timberwolves 97, Hornets 90 -- Sam Cassell had 22 points, including 7 in the final 2 1/2 minutes, leading Minnesota past New Orleans at Minneapolis. Kevin Garnett led Minnesota with 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists, drawing a foul with 18.2 seconds left that led to New Orleans coach Tim Floyd's ejection. After the foul, Floyd chucked his jacket off, kicked a bouncing ball into the seats, got ejected, and angrily chased referee Phil Robinson.

Knicks 90, Raptors 79 -- Stephon Marbury had 28 points and 14 assists to keep coach Lenny Wilkens undefeated in his new job, extending host New York's winning streak to four games. The Knicks improved to 3-0 under Wilkens by defeating the team he coached the past three seasons. Magic 106, Bucks 99 -- Tracy McGrady scored 34 points and Juwan Howard added 19 points and 12 rebounds to power Orlando past visiting Milwaukee.Pacers 100, Hawks 97 -- Reggie Miller hit a go-ahead 3-pointer and added two free throws in the final minute, helping Indiana hold off host Atlanta.SuperSonics 90, 76ers 81 -- Ray Allen scored 28 points and hit two late off-balance shots to lift Seattle at Philadelphia.Wizards 93, Bulls 83 -- Host Washington won consecutive games for the first time in two months, overcoming an 18-point deficit to beat Chicago as Juan Dixon made a tie-breaking jumper with 3:21 left.Grizzlies 88, Rockets 83 -- Pau Gasol had 24 points and 11 rebounds and James Posey scored 13 of his 17 points in a fourth-quarter comeback to help Memphis top visiting Houston.Kings 125, Clippers 100 -- Peja Stojakovic scored 31 points as Sacramento routed host Los Angeles for its fifth straight vicWarriors 101, Jazz 85 -- Erick Dampier had his 20th double-double with 18 points and a career-high 24 rebounds to help host Golden State rout Utah.
