Kidd's kick-start lifts Nets past Warriors

Jason Kidd had 7 points and two assists in a 13-3 third-quarter run that led the New Jersey Nets to an 88-70 victory over the Golden State Warriors last night in East Rutherford, N.J. Kidd finished with 23 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds in just 29 minutes, helping the Nets to their 10th win in 13 games.

Kenyon Martin, who celebrated his 26th birthday Tuesday, scored 17 points and put an exclamation point on the victory with two late 3-pointers.

Kerry Kittles added 6 of his 14 points in the third quarter, when the Nets turned a 2-point halftime lead into a 15-point advantage in handing the Warriors their third straight loss.

The Warriors were 11 of 20 from the field in taking a 23-16 first-quarter lead, then made only 11 of 33 shots and scored 33 points over the next two quarters.

Clippers 120, Nuggets 104 -- Quentin Richardson scored a career-high 44 points and Elton Brand had 20 points and nine rebounds in host Los Angeles's victory over Denver. Voshon Lenard and Andre Miller each had 18 points for the Nuggets, who have lost eight of their last 10 against Los Angeles. Miller, who spent last season with the Clippers, also had nine assists and was booed every time he touched the ball.

Rockets 80, 76ers 72 -- Yao Ming scored 21 points and Cuttino Mobley had 20 as Houston beat Philadelphia and ended a two-game home losing streak. Kenny Thomas had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Greg Buckner had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the 76ers. They have lost four straight, all on the road, and are 4-7 with Allen Iverson -- sidelined by a right knee contusion -- out of the lineup.

Pistons 78, Trail Blazers 71 -- Chauncey Billups scored 22 points and Ben Wallace added 10 points and 15 rebounds, leading Detroit past visiting Portland. Detroit also got 13 points from Richard Hamilton and 12 from Corliss Williamson while winning its third in a row. The Pistons snapped a six-game losing streak to Portland and beat the Blazers at home for the first time since Jan. 29, 1997.
