Which room is your family’s favorite holiday hangout?

The family room is the holiday hotspot this year in my home.

My in-laws our in town for the week and the small but comfortable room just off the kitchen of my Natick fixer-upper is where folks are playing with the kids, reading and yakking.

By contrast, the more formal living room, which has the Christmas tree and some of the better furniture, such as a Victorian couch handed down from long-lost "Aunt Rachel," - who would be at least 140 years old if she were alive today - is respected but not particularly used right now.

Sad to say, the difference may be simply the location of our electronic hearth - the TV is in the back in the house in the cozy family room off the kitchen.

If you are curious what other families are doing this year, check out this holiday poll.

The living room/den got the most votes in the Coldwell Banker survey, listed by 43 percent as their family's favorite holiday hangout room. The kitchen is a close second, grabbing 41 percent of the vote, with 12 percent saying they preferred to spend their time with their loved ones in the dining room.

There are also lots of full houses this year as well.

Roughly 40 percent of the 1,000 people polled across the country say their annual holiday gatherings include 15 or more family members and friends. And a majority - 54 percent - say they will typically travel at some point during the holiday season to stay overnight with family members.

Do you have a full house this year? And is it great to have everyone under one roof for a few days or is it maybe a little too much of a full house for you?
