WASHINGTON _ Thomas E. Donilon, President Obama’s recently departed national security adviser, will be returning to New England to take a part-time position at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, the center announced Friday.
“Tom has been at the center of every major national security decision in the Obama administration from the surge and then drawdown in Afghanistan to the rebalance toward Asia and elimination of Osama bin Laden,” Graham Allison, the Belfer Center’s director, said in a statement. “For Harvard faculty, fellows, and students, he will be a great colleague and instructor.”
Donilon, a native of Providence, R.I., also has Boston connections. His brother, Terrence, is the communications director for Boston’s Roman Catholic Cardinal Sean O’Malley. Meanwhile, his brother Mike is a senior adviser to Vice President Joe Biden, while his wife, Catherine M. Russell, is the former chief of staff for Dr. Jill Biden.
