A new political group called Americans for Progressive Action is set to soon launch more than $558,000 in television ads in support of Republican US Senate hopeful Gabriel E. Gomez, according to Democratic and Republican sources.
Americans for Progressive Action officially formed only this month, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission. The treasurer of the group, according to the filing, is Nancy H. Watkins of Tampa, Florida. A woman of the same name and address is also the treasurer of the presidential campaign committee of Republican US Representative Michele Bachmann .
Messages left for Watkins at her office and home were not returned Wednesday evening.
Democratic groups are already airing ads in Massachusetts supporting Gomez’s opponent, US Representative Edward J. Markey.
The Washington Post first reported the news of the group buying television time.
