Chief Warrant Officer Kyran E. Kennedy, 43, West Roxbury
Kennedy was a member of the 101st Airborne. He was killed Nov. 7, 2003, when his helicopter was shot down in Tikrit. Before he left for Iraq, he made a wooden hammer dulcimer and was teaching himself to play. He and his wife, Kathy, had moved to Kentucky, where they lived with their three children on a country plot, gardening and keeping bees. He was remembered for his ingenuity in finding safer ways to accomplish his unit's goals. The fifth of 10 children, he was an altar boy and a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School.
