Private First Class Andre Craig Jr., 24, New Haven
Craig wanted to become a state trooper and hoped the Army would pay for his college education, relatives told The Hartford Courant. John Elliott, a family friend, told the paper it was ironic that Craig had made it out of a tough neighborhood to do something positive, only to be killed doing it. Now Elliott, who served six years in the Army, said he advises young people considering that path to wait until the war is over, or to consider loans. Craig was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad on June 25, 2007.
