KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The announcement by the prime minister Saturday that information indicated Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 had been deliberately diverted from its scheduled route, coupled with evidence that the plane was being navigated by someone with deep experience at the controls, renewed focus on two people aboard who had those skills: the pilot and first officer.
Authorities have released scant information about the two men, both veteran aviators, and officials have not declared that either is a suspect in the plane’s disappearance.
Still, officials seem to be scrutinizing Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, and his first officer, Fariq Abdul Hamid, 27, both Malaysian citizens.
