Blizzard over for most, let the cleanup continue

Our historic blizzard is now over with snowfall amounts of epic proportions rivaling the biggest storms in our weather history. Boston's 24.9 inches of snow places the Blizzard of 2013 as the 5th biggest snowstorm on record. This storm is now just behind the April Fool's Blizzard of 1997 when 25.4" fell. The number one snowstorm, back in February of 2005, brought 27.5 inches to the city and that will stand as number one, for now. Over 30 inch totals is common on a line from Portland, Maine to Framingham, Massachusetts and down through Manchester, Connecticut. Cape Cod
Cape Cod has been very hard hit with the loss of power a big problem. It's going to take a few days to get things back to normal there. The snow was heavy wet in that region and when it turned cold, all the snow froze on the wires creating 4 inches of thick ice. As the winds increased, the wires came down. Snow bands will continue much of the afternoon and storm totals on the upper Cape will still increase by several more inches.

Winds are going to subside throughout the afternoon, but it will remain windy all day. Temperatures will be cold the next few hours remaining in the lower 20s and then falling further tonight. The good news in the temperature department is that it will actually become milder this week with highs getting near or above 40F as early as Monday.

Our storm is pulling away to the east of New England and will continue to move eastward. As the storm gets further out to sea, the snow and wind will eventually end over parts Cape Cod. Tomorrow will be bright and sunny with temperatures rising above freezing. On Monday there could be a few rain and snow showers early in the morning and just plain rain showers in the afternoon. This doesn't look like a big rain event. I am not concerned about flooding or rapid melting from this system.
Gardening this week
This week I wanted to share a video that shows a very unique water garden. This particular water garden contains many different varieties of fish. While you might not have the space for something this elaborate, you can mimic some of the elements on a smaller scale.
