The April Fools' Storm

Fenway Park provided the setting for this unusual snow picture taken in spring 1997. It was 63 degrees in Boston on March 31 -- Easter Sunday -- but forecasters were warning of an approaching snowstorm. Many people dismissed the forecast as an April Fools prank. As this picture taken April 1 at the home of the Red Sox shows, the prediction was for real. Before umpires yelled "Play Ball'' again at Fenway, helicopters were employed in efforts to help dry the field.
