The Archdiocese of Boston continued to close parishes around the city in 2006 after the church's embarrassing and costly clergy sex abuse scandal. Since 2004, the archdiocese has shrunk the number of parishes from 357 to 296. On Nov. 26, church officials detailed their latest plan, which would close Holy Trinity Church in Boston's South End and St. Philip Neri in Newton, and relocate a Latin Mass from Boston to Newton.
