The Mass. Taxpayers Foundation proposals warrant a thorough review and careful consideration and I anticipate discussing these options with the impacted parties this fall and during the next legislative session.
The Mass. Taxpayers Foundation recently recommended that local officials be given the power to design their own health plans without having to negotiate with the unions, and that state retirees use Medicare for their primary health care coverage. Do you support these proposals?
The foundation also proposed changes in state and municipal pensions, such as increasing the retirement age and capping annual pensions at $100,000. Do you agree?Back to top

Should the state Legislature be exempt from the state's public records law?
I believe we should review the impact of removing this exemption and determine if it will negatively impact policy development and discussions. I would also like to review how other states handle this issue before determining whether any changes to the exemption are appropriate.

Cite any votes (if an incumbent) or positions (if a challenger or newcomer) you have taken that disagree with the stance taken by your party's legislative leadership.
1) My very first vote was against a Senate redistricting plan that would have hurt the Merrimack Valley and weakened its representation in Congress.
2) I voted against increasing our state's sales tax.
3) I voted against increasing our state's alcohol tax and gas tax.
4) I voted against legislative efforts to appoint an interim US senator.
5) I lead the effort to significantly change the "Pacheco Law" so that the state could more vigorously pursue the privatization of services.
