An 8-year-old boy was killed in a fire in Penfield, New York after waking up six of his family members and helping them escape. He died trying to rescue a seventh.
According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Tyler Doohan was spending the night at his grandfather's trailer during the holiday weekend when an electrical fire caused the home to go up in flames early Monday morning.
Doohan was able to wake up his grandmother, aunt, and young cousins - who were 4 and 6 years old - and help them escape. When he went back for his uncle, who was disabled and used a wheelchair, he never made it out.
"He saved those other six people," Penfield Fire Chief Chris Ebmeyer told the Rochester paper.
Doohan, his uncle, and his grandfather all passed away in the fire. The surviving family members were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the report.
