Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Eli Young Band, and Kacey Musgraves are taking over Gillette Stadium this weekend for the New England Country Music Festival, but that's not the only country takeover going on lately.

After a steady climb in the ratings over the past few months, Country 102.5 surpassed Kiss 108 as Boston's most popular radio station in July. It was the first time Kiss 108 didn't hold down the top spot since 2008, according to Boston Radio Watch.

Kiss 108 held around a one point lead in April, May, and June, but Country 102.5 jumped ahead last month earning an 8.1 rating compared to Kiss 108's 7.6. This rise suggests Bostonians might be embracing the country music more during these summer months, with the laid-back songs fitting listeners' moods better than the typical top 40 songs.
