The 70-year-old TV personality shared a semi-nude selfie on Twitter this weekend with the accompanying explanation,
"70 is the new 50 (Erica and family are going to be so pissed...but at my age...)"
Rivera deleted the tweet, but it was too late: his photo, in which he wears rose-colored glasses and covers up his lower portion with a towel, was retweeted hundreds of times and reposted across the Internet.
Hist follow-up tweet indirectly acknowledged his photo post:
Note to self: no tweeting after 1am— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) July 21, 2013
But still, his tweet could not undo the impact, and users continued to react to the photo.
Okay 49 isn't 70. But still - check out my bathroom towel pic! Sorry ladies I just can't turn this off! pic.twitter.com/p7n0gnPV9n— Glenn Beck (@glennbeck) July 22, 2013
It’s funny that Geraldo deleted his tweet 12 hours after it had been retweeted a million times. Can’t erase my brain.— Steffi (@Steffi5461) July 21, 2013

Anthony Bourdain repeatedly retweeted the photo with accompanying comments:
"The face that launched a thousand breakfasts."
"Geraldo throws his hat into the New York mayoral race."
