During last night's Stanley Cup overtime game, the local NBC affiliate in Austin, TX accidentally interrupted play to run a promo for its morning news show. The station cut back to the game 20 seconds later when the promo finished, but viewers only saw a crowd of Chicago Blackhawks celebrating a series-tying goal. The station missed game-winner.
Unfortunately for the station, it got even worse. An apology was issued, which can be seen below, but only after a story aired about growing hockey popularity in Texas. Hockey hipster-fans throughout Austin can now enjoy their Heidi moment.
@KXAN_News A story on the growth of ice hockey in Austin? It might grow more if you didn’t cut away from the winning goal in the Stanley Cup— Tim Trentham (@ttrentham) June 20, 2013
